Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing this letter because of my sorrow about the situation between Armenian and Turkish people and its bad development. Unfortunately nowadays we are hearing about a fake, an untruth. In Turkey, we call that ‘Armenian Question’. But they call, I mean The Armenians, ‘Armenian Genocide’. It is known by everybody that it is a fake; however, they continue to play this unfair game. The bad side of this situation is that they are able to succeed to make other innocent countries believe to this big lie. Let me tell you a little bit…

Till the end of the XIX Century, Armenians lived a golden age. The fact that Ottoman State provided all the citizens who were industrious, honest, capable and skillful among the   non-Moslem peoples with some good conditions, they were The Armenians who benefited the most from the Ottoman facilities. While they were kept exempt from military service and partially exempt from taxes, they had the opportunity to rise in commerce, artisanship, farming, and administrative fields and since they were faithful to the state, and unified with the nation, and since they established understanding in between, rightfully they were called and qualified as “faithful nation”, “faithful people”. Among them, there existed the one who was rised to important duties in state places, and even there existed the ones who had the post of Ministers, Counsellorships in Public Works, Navigation, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Treasury, Post Cable Administration, The Mint and there had been the ones who wrote books in Turkish and in foreign languages on the questions of Ottoman State. The Armenians became a privileged society among non-Moslems and even among the Moslems not only in the active law but also in written law.

But, when Ottoman State began to get weaken and the intervention of some of European Countries and all subjects occurred, in Turkish-Armenian relationships a stage of weakening began. At one side are the efforts of some Westerners to brake the relations of Armenians from the Turkish society in points of view in religion, cultural, commercial, social and political matters, on the other side is the result of the negative activities of the patriarchy and churches. The Armenian committees established, in and outside the country, organized, equipped, and armed, The Armenian society was tried to be broken from The Turkish society slowly. Thus the bloody events began in which Muslims were killed and harmed in most of the times. Thousands of Muslims, Armenians have lost their lives at the revolting movements which began in Eastern Anatolia and which were carried even to the capital city, Istanbul.

And during the First World War, even though there were Armenians who fought against the enemy as Ottoman soldiers behind the lines, most of these fought against the Turks together with the enemy in the lines and behind the lines they made massacres without making any distinctions about women, children, old people, and turned Anatolia into a ruin by killing hundreds and thousands of Muslims.

Even though in war The Ottoman Government, as they saw that wouldn’t lessen by the local measures, applied to a solution at last which could be seen rarely in the history of world and The Armenians from the region of war were “exiled and inhabited” or “displaced” to the safe regions of the country. Also in the past, Romans, Persians, and Byzantine exiled The Armenians from one place of Anatolia to the other because of their bad manners.

Taking notice of the properties of genocide, which is described in International Law, it is obvious that the event, which passed in Eastern Anatolia, cannot be considered as genocide. I believe, it is better that historians discuss this subject instead of changing Parliaments into courts by using that as a political matter.

            Respectfully.

Fransızca Mektup :

Madame / Monsieur,
